Too much theory in film school?

Lights, Camera, Action. Marxism, Semiotics, Narratology.
This piece by David Weddle, special to the LA Times, posits that theory has overtaken film school, particularly after his daughter brings home her final and shares a sample question.

This is a particularly timely article, since I’m incredibly pleased to announce that Jake Euker will be writing film reviews for Postmodern Village. You can see samples of his at http://www.f5wichita.com. One of my favorite Euker lines, from a review of Airport 1975, “Why watch it? Because it’s like Stalin: someone has to remember or else it could happen all over again.”

Welcome to the Village, Jake.

I have similar feelings about every film Mary Carey has ever made.

Please, I beseech you Jesus, help her win the California gubernatorial race!
